Hello everyone... I am looking for Robert Spencer. He was in the 1860 census but am not able to find him in the 1870 census as I do not have any access to it... I would "assume" that if he is not in the 1870 census that he passed away by then... It was reported that he died in Fulton County... Not sure when this happened... My only questimate is 1860 through 1880 (unless he wasn't in 1870 census) ... His wife was back in Calhoun County and died in 1888...
If anyone knows where I could find information about him, I would appreciate it... He was born about @1794 in PA... his wife was Rebecca who was also born in PA...
They married in OH and came to Calhoun in the mid 1850's...
I believe I found the 1860 census to which you refer. It has some strange listings, ie if Rebecca is his wife why is she listed 3rd? Who is the Elizabeth, Robert's older sister or sister-in-law? Why is she listed 2nd? I also found a Robert Spencer b. 1793 and Rebecca Shryer b. 1813 in the US & Internationsl Marriages as married in 1831 in Ohio which would fit with birth of children on the 1860 census. Also found a corresponding Robert and Rebecca on One World Tree. It indicates Robert died in 1862 in Fulton County. If true then probably Cuba as that is where he was in 1860. Maybe someone has the Cuba cemetery Books. I don't think I have been much help. but sometimes when someone else beats on the information a person can see it differently. Happy hunting. Ruth
Ruth, thanks for taking the time to post your response... As I hadn't seen the 1860 census (Just told that he was in the census) I didn't know that Elizabeth was listed 2nd... I am not sure who Elizabeth is.. He did have a sister-in-law by the name of Elizabeth but she was just two years older than Mary Catherine... Supposedly Robert's mother was an Elizabeth but with only 11 years difference between Robert and Elizabeth I don't think that would be her... Maybe Rebecca's mother?? I do not know who her parents were...
I have heard (don't have documentation) that Robert and Rebecca's marriage took place in 1831 in Knox County, Ohio... I have to find some documentation (haven't worked on that yet)...
So I am wondering who this Elizabeth is? I am going to have to add the Shryer (Rebecca's maiden name) to the fire so I can possibly answer who is Elizabeth was...
Anyway I appreciate you spending the time to post... It does help listening to others about it...
Thanks for that info... I am going to email the lady to see what her sources are... I have heard the same things (ie. parents' names, etc) but have never seen documentation on it...
I grew up in Canton but now live in Texas. I been involved in genealogy all my life. First with my mother and Greataunt then on my own. I love the hunt. Hopefully followed by discovery :>) If I can be of any more help please feel free to email me.
I did genealogy about 7 years ago for about 3 years then stopped... Now I am back at it... Of course this time I am doing one side at a time... there are enough surnames to keep me busy for quite a while...
I am still curious as to who that Elizabeth is...
Where in TX are you? I have found two lines went there also... well one went there and one was just living there for a short time...
