Curious about a Stanley Woods

Hello Ardith- I looked on Ancestry.com for Stanley Woods. Here is what I found. I was not able to minpoint any death information. He is living near Stuffelbeams and Nott and Hummels in several census. It appears his father in law may have been a Robert Harrison. Harrison is one of my family names but I don't have a Robert listed. I hope this helps some. Sincerely Karen Morlan

Eleanor L. (Woods) Hunsucker, 89, of Sun City, Ariz., died on Nov. 22, 2005. Formerly of Buffalo and Spearfish, Eleanor was born and raised in Lewistown, Ill. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Jenny and Stanley Woods, and her late husband, Vance A. Hunsucker, of Buffalo. She is survived by one of her eight siblings, her brother, Ross Woods, as well as her only child, a daughter, Carol Loveland Prestwood, four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and her traveling companion of twenty years, Roy Amschler. Eleanor expressed her patriotism by serving in the Womens Army Corps in the US Army Air Force during WWII. Affectionately known as "Nana" to her grand children and great grandchildren, and more specifically, "Nana the World Traveler" because of her fondness for travel by air and by sea to faraway places in Europe and Asia, Nana enjoyed exploring the Earth. From air travel on the Concorde to exotic cruises including the QE II, Nana had a flare for discovering the Earth and its many diverse inhabitants. She was a natural conversationalist and readily made new friends, many of whom she would correspond with for life. Within her passion for world travel, Nana also possessed an unfulfilled longing for travel into outer space. One year, well into her seventies, fun loving, Nana, with her spirit of adventure, even attended Space Camp in preparation for a trip she one day hoped to take into Space! That was to be her greatest unsatisfied dream. Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Service to be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005 at Willowbrook United Methodist Church, Sun City, Ariz. In honor of her wishes her cremains will be interred alongside Vance Hunsucker in the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis.

In the 1910 census he and Jennie L. are living between the Notts and the Stuffelbeams in

Illinois > Fulton > Liverpool > District 94

He is listed in the 1910- 1920- and 1930 census.

Thank you for this info. Interesting and I am assuming a link. I was thinking this Stanley was about in the 80's about now. But that could be wrong, he could actually be older by 20 yrs or so. I guess I need to know, was he apart from his wife in the 60's? Did she pass on earlier than the 60's? This Elenenor would be around my dad's age . At the time he was a boarder at my grandmother's house, this Stanley Woods was having an affair with my grandmother. Oh yeah, apparently it was known. I just assumed he was around my dad's age and maybe still living but very well could of been older. You'd think to have affair with a woman 25 yrs older, but who knows. lol

Thank you again as am just curious. My cousin and I both have wondered as we do remember him.

so he was surely a widower at the time you are looking at. I can't seem to find a death date on him. He also had a son Sterling Woods who was born in Feb 1924. Are you sure it wasn.t him and not his dad?

Oh Karen , thank you so much! This does give me something to go on. So Jennie passed, and maybe the guy chose to be a boarder once the children were raised. Living amongst the Knotts and Stufflebeams, I have good idea where that was and was indeed in the area my grandmother's family lived. I wonder what Jennie's maiden name was?

Really believe Stanley was the one, I recall and now quite a few cousins recalling their memories of him. My grandma was born in 1894, so he could and prob was near her age. They'd both be in 60's range at the time. And thru my eyes, a younger man would of been off a bubble to be interested in my grandma that way..........lol Scary thought but leave to old geezers.

I did not find death date either. I looked in ssdi but I never found one on Woodrow Brown either. Strange.

Had to post...most the mystery on Stanley Woods is solved. All but the death date. Instead of being the traveling salesman boarder I thought all these yrs was a basic stranger,. He did indeed live in small area Liverpool/Maples Mills/Lewistown where my grandmother's Clark family also lived. So he was a neighbor and some of his kin, I believe daughters married into the Clarks. Jennie turns out to be a Harrison, dau of Robert Harrison. This all was found in the 1930 census and 1900. So..........it all fits and he was my grandmother's age.I'm quite happy with this info and thank everyone so very much!

Stanley Woods was m. to Jennie Harrison. Jennie was the dau of Robert Harrison and Ada McLouth.

Stanley Woods d. 21 Oct 1965 and is buried in Liverpool. Apple Cem.

Are you related to Stanley in some way? No info is necessary, as have pretty much put it all together. It comes down to a relationship I was not aware of tween Grandma and Stanley. The only other thing, which I would never know for sure, could there have been a child conceived between Stanley and my grandma when they were both quite young. Story is that my grandma's first child was not by my grandfather, and certainly before they married. Only clue could be if a picture of Stanley when he was young. Oh well, food for thought. Thank you for the offer of more info tho

Hello Ardith, nice to hear from you. I don't have any more information other than that I have here On Woods . My time spent on my Jennings family took another path to my dad's first wife he married in California in 1906. It's been a great challenge. I probably know more now about her than he did! She was a mystry all of my life. I didn't figure it all out until 2009! So never give up on Genealogy.
Our people surely knew and worked together in Fulton County. I have so many Fulton names.

I am the granddaughter of Stanley and Jennie Lee Woods. My father was Lucien. I remember my gradfather living in a boarding house during the fifties, but he moved in with my aunt (his daughter) during the early sixties. He was a miner for a short time during WW II, but worked in various trades before and after. Apparently he never really recovered after my grandmother died shortly after giving birth to her 9th child.

I wish I could help more, all I know is written above. A suggestion might be to write to the National Archives for his WWII war record and file. It may or may not be helpful.

Hi, I am the Grand Daughter of Eleanor Woods Loveland Hunsucker. Her parents were Stanley Woods and Jennie Lee Harrison. Eleanor (Nana) used to tell me that I was a descendant of Robert E. Lee.

She once gave me a family tree outlining that but I have misplaced it as I've moved all over the world since then.

I knew Lucien and Ruby and visited with them often when I was visiting Nana. I am interested in the link to Robert E. Lee. Can anyone verify that or tell me how to go about doing that?

I am the son of Eleanor's brother Sterling Max Woods, and I stumbled on this forum while looking for informaiton on my dad.

My wife and I visited Eleanor in Arizona about a year before she passed away and we have a picture of her in her WWII uniform in our family room.

I'm pretty sure that the link to Robert E Lee is a Woods family legend.

I think the family tree looks something like ...

Jennie Lee Harrison was the daughter of Robert L Harrison who was the son of Barton Lee Harrison who was the son of James Harrison and Sarah Lee. I havent been able to come up with anything on Sarah Lee, but she gave birth to Barton about the same time that Robert E Lee was getting married to mary Custis back in Virginia.

I am attaching all I know about the Charles Stanley and Dorenda Bybee. She is the daughter of James Monroe Bybee and Eveline.
