Hi Karen.

I live in Portsmouth Hampshire England.

Thank you for the census info.

The names of the other daughters that married are

Elsie or Eline Lamprell married to a Edward Plank.

and Helen Lamprell married to someone with the surname Wheeler.

Are you doing family research?  if any member of your family came from England always happy to help.

The Lamprell family came from Kent England in 1856,

The father Thomas Lamprell died in La Salle in 1857 he was my

Great Great Great grandfather, I cannot find out anything on him not even where he is buried,

and his three sons Thomas L William L and Charles L all settled in Fulton county Ill.

I know nothing of Thomas L Charles L died in 1868 and William L married and settled in Astoria Fulton Ill and went on to have family.

It is very hard trying to search for them and not knowing how to go about it.

Karen you have been a great help and I thank you.

All the best.

Margaret.

Hi Karen.

Thank you for all the info that you have found, the page did open.

It states on one of the census that William Lamprell is a farmer could you tell me what kind of farming is done in Fulton.

Is there any thing that I can do for you?

Hello Margaret-  I live in California but we went to visit Fulton County and enjoyed it very much.  It's a large area with beautiful trees and next to the Illinois River (I think) is some areas.  I saw many farms and fields but I couldnot state exactly what the crops were.  In the midwest a lot of corn and soybeans are grown.  During the 1860's on for many years there was a large cigar industry but the tobacco must have come up the river from the south.  Several members of my family worked in making cigars.  The town of Canton was home of the Orendorff Farm Machinery Company and was a large part of it's commerce.  Coal and mining was also a large industry.  My father spent a short time working with a mule in a mineshaft.  He said he would follow the mule in and load the ore cart and follow the mule out,  it knew exactly what needed to be done.  He didn't do that job for very long!

My people mainly lived in Liverpool and because of the river they were also fishermen and ran hogs.  Farm land is still an important part of the area I think.  My GG Grandmother's (Deborah Willcoxen Jennings Bybee's) husband Thomas T. Bybee was the owner or co owner of many farms,  reading his probate is like reading a phone book of the area as so many families were involved with him financially.

I have most of my family coming from England/Ireland and Scottland.  The problem is they have all been in America sence the 1600 to 1700's and are not easy to trace.  My work has been focused on their lives in America and I am pleased to say it's a large, interesting story. I have truely enjoyed researching for you,  it's good for my skills that I can dig up information on other families.  My home email address is  krmorlan@earthlink.net  contact me anytime!  It's a pleasure working with you.
