SEC 8, TOWNSHIP 7

My family purchased property in section 8, township 7, in Fulton County in 1859.  Can anyone tell me where this property is?  The boundries of the township or the closest town would help.

Thanks.

You are missing part of the legal description:

Should be Section 8, Township 7 North, Range __ East

Township 7 North has Ranges 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 which are

Lee ; Deerfield ; Joshua ; Canton ; Orion Townships repectively

These refer to the rows of townships and columns of ranges which were set up on government lands in many states 150 years ago or more. There are usually 36 sections to a township; Sections are then divided by quarter section and 1/4 1/4  a base Section is 640 acres and usually 1 square mile.  And the government sold most in 40 or 80 acres parcels

I found an 1871 Atlas of Fulton County Board on the same site you found this board. You may be able to locate who owned the farm at that time.
