Wentworth

I am looking for information about the family of Hiram Wentworth.  Hiram was married to Elizabeth England and had at least three sons, Albert, William and Elijah.  Hiram may have been related to "Long JOhn Wentworth" but not for sure.  Hiram was a merchant in Fulton County and his son albert was a clerk.  There are civil war records for both an Elijah Wentworth and a William Wentworth, but not for sure it is the same family.

Elizabeth, Hiram's wife, was Elizabeth England, daughter of the Reverend Stephen England and Anna Harper of Sangamon County Illinois.

Can someone lead me in the correct direction?

Hi John - I'm assuming you've found their 1850 census in Lewiston, Fulton Couny. Also, If you check the Illinois Repository of Archived Documents (IRAD) online, you will find that there is a William and an Albert Wentworth involved in lawsuits with one Maria GILSON, who is probably one of the two Maria Gilsons (mother & daughter) in my ancestry.

I plan on sending for the photostats of the documents from IRAD sometime next month to see what that was all about. The Fulton County Circuit Court Case Files (1825–1876) are stored at Western Illinois University Library. They have been very helpful in sending docs relating to some other court cases involving the Trapp family. (They only charge 10 cents a page for photostats!!) I'll let you know how the inquiry turns out. BTW, IRAD is a GREAT resource for all kinds of IL vital documents. just in case you haven't tried them, their Home link is
http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/databases.html.

If you already know something about these court cases, or if you want to contact me, my personal email addy is kmclaughlin31@comcast.net.

Good luck in your searches! Kathy
