Robert B. and Delila Evans, 1860-1862 in Fulton Co.

I am seeking information on Delila Evans, who immigrated to Fulton Co. from Virginia in the 1850s with her husband Robert B.  She is on the 1860 U.S. Ill. Census, but not 1870.  Robert B. remarried on 7 May 1862 to Adda Clark and moved to Missouri, but I would like to find out what happened to Delila (or Delilah).

Al, this is what I have found for you.
Reference: Cemetery Inscriptions of Fulton County, Illinois- Lewistown Twp- Vol. 3 Oak Hill Cemetery-Revised FCGHS.

Delila Evans wife of Robert B. Evans died June 30, 1861. (this also has either 56 years or 36 years of age. I am not sure if this was off the possible tombstone or another reference for her death.) Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lewistown, Illinois.

Thank you so much, Deb, for this wonderful information.  As for Delila's age at her death, it must be 56, not 36.  The 1830 census for Amherst County, VA gives her age as between 20 and 30 years; the 1840 VA census also gives it 20-30 years; the 1850 VA census gives it as 40, while the 1860 Fulton Co., IL census gives it as 54.  So take your pick.  If she were 56 when she died in 1861 then she would have been born in 1805, which squares closely enough with all the other dates.

Incidentally, when you sent your information you said that she was the "wife of Robert B. Evans;" was that information on the tombstone, or did you get it somewhere else?

Al

Hi Al,
The info I sent you was what was in the cemetery book. So I don't know if  the "Robert B. Evans" was from the cemetery records themselves or from a tombstone. I will check the books the next time I go to the library and see if it makes reference to a stone or cemetery records and let you know.
Do you have a Edward F. Evans in your line?

Hi Al,
That is all the info from the cemetery book, other than it has she is buried in section A.
This is how it reads:
Evans, Delila, w/o Robert B. d June 30, 1861, 56 y or 36 y. Sec. A

I ran to the library and made a copy of it. If you want a copy sent to you via email let me know.

Thanks, Deb, for getting the information source.  Yes, I would appreciate it if you would e-mail it to me.  My e-mail is:  SHARNAL@MSN.COM.

Robert B. Evans (actually Sr.) was a direct ancestor of mine, and I am sorry but I don't know anything about Edward F.  However, I have been in contact with another person who is really into the Evans genealogy and you could get in contact with her.  Her name is Judy Wolff and her e-mail is JUDITHWOLFF@COMCAST.NET.

Good luck.

Al
