My Payne family in Fulton Co. were largely in Orion Township.  Specifically, I'm descended from Sarah May Payne (b. April 20, 1877, d. December 2, 1911), daughter of Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Payne.  Do our trees connect?

I have a Dora Payne, born 14 Apr 1873 and married a Burnett.  She is listed in the 1880 census for Waterford, Fulton Co., IL as a ward of William Shelby.  She has always been a mystery to us.  Does she possibly tie in to your Payne's in Waterford?  Thanks, Terri

Dora is the daughter of John & Eliza Payne (I do believe)you will find them in the in the 1870 Fulton Co., Census, living next door to my gggrandfather Alexander Payne. John and Alex are probably family, brothers, but I am working on that. Dora ia married to a Burnette, the is the family of Smiley Burnette, (Frog) the western movie star (Side kick), also played the train conductor on Petticoat Junction. I have most of the Burnette family genealogy in my file and would be glad to send it to you. Please e-mail me @
