Wilcoxen

Looking for my ancestor, Marsh Wilcoxen (not Marshall Ney).  States born in North Carolina abt 1830, married to Sarah Gwin.  Died in Fulton County in 1901, buried in Maryville Cemetery in Bryant.

Would love any clues about his parentage, etc.

This may or may not be helpful. According to the 1879 Fulton county history book, there was a Marshall Ney Wilcoxen in Liverpool township. Could your Marsh and this Marshall be the same man? Marshall is listed as being a son of Capt. Elijah and Charlotte (Calloway) Wilcoxen. They had 14 children, 7 male, and 7 female. Twelve lived to be adults. Those listed were, Jesse B., E. Calloway, Andrew Jackson, Marshall Ney, James Calvin, and Jeremiah F. (sorry no daughters are mentioned) Mrs. Wilcoxen was a daughter of Col. Elijah Calloway. They were married in 1811, and she died on June 18, 1874. He was born in Ash Co., N.C. in 1789, and died on July 3, 1860.

Hi Joan and Don,

As a 3rd-great grandniece of Marshall Ney WILCOXEN/WILLCOXEN (originally WILLCOCKSON), I am interested in this discussion.

Joan, could you please tell us more about Marsh Wilcoxen's family? Who is his son or daughter from whom you are descended, and do you have names/dates/places for any other of their children?

It seems quite a coincidence that:
1) Your Marsh WILCOXEN was born in North Carolina abt 1830, and died in Fulton County in 1901.
2) Marshall Ney WILCOXEN's parents (Capt. Elijah and Charlotte [Calloway] Wilcoxen) were both born in North Carolina, and he was born 5 Sep 1827 (in Estill Co., Kentucky), and died in Fulton County 5 Jan 1901.

I cannot help but wonder if your Marsh may possibly be Marshall Ney after all??

I have dedicated a website to Capt. Elijah and Charlotte (Calloway) Wilcoxen at:
http://stipak.com/willcockson/elijah/ElijahWillcockson.htm

Perhaps my info about Marshall Ney WILCOXEN's family might help you, at:
http://stipak.com/willcockson/elijah/bios/2.htm#P3947

Please note that Marshall Ney WILCOXEN, Sr. also had a son named Marshall Ney WILCOXEN, Jr.

As a WILCOXEN/WILLCOCKSON family researcher, I would love to hear more about your branch of our fun family.

Best wishes,
--Alice

Alice, thank you for trying to help me solve this mystery!

Marsh Wilcoxen & wife, Sarah Gwin are shown in the Carter County, Tennessee census for 1860, so they came to Fulton County, Illinois after that time.

They had known children, Samuel, Rebecca, Deborah (my g grandmother) and William.

They appear in the Buckheart Township census rolls while the other Marshall Ney Wilcoxens are in Liverpoole Township.

Marsh & Sarah are buried in the Maryville Cemetery in Bryant, as is my g grandmother, Debbie Wilcoxen Ford Bennett.

Marsh's cemetery marker states he was in the Civil War UNA. SS G RGT ILL VOL, but I cannot find him in any rosters.

As I mentioned, he is NOT Marshall Ney, but I think they could be cousins.

I would appreciate any information - while he is buried in Marysville cemetery, I cannot find any death records in Fulton County.  Could he have died someplace else and been brought back to Bryant????????
