Joel and Elizabeth Coykendall

Joel Coykendall and Elizabeth Todd were married on 8 May 1859 in Fulton County and were still residing there in the 1900 census. Is anyone able to tell me their dates of death or places of burial? Thanks, Anna Marie Dahlquist in California

Try Greenwood Cemetery in Canton, IL.

I know there are some Coykendall's buried there, because they married into the Fellows family.

Doc Coykendall [1807-1883] was married to Lorenda Fellows [1807-1886] and he was the Sexton of that particular Cemetery.  I am not sure, but I think Doc Coykendall was a brother of Joel P. Coykenall [1802-1854] and he married an Elizabeth 'Betsy' Driggs.  That research belongs to someone else and I have never attempted to verify it.  Doctor Coykendall and Joel P were sons of Joseph Coykendall and Mary Beadle.  Again, this is someone else's research.

My research:  Obit for Doctor Coykendall: "Canton Daily Register", Thur May 31, 1883. P1.  Here's an excert of his obit . . .

Says he was an early settler of Canton, IL, the sexton for Greenwood Cemetery and that he was born in Cayuga County, NY Sep 18, 1807.  He married Sorenda Fellows Oct 1, 1826 and came to Canton in 1829.  He is the youngest of family of 7 sons and 1 dau of whom none but Cyrus Coykendall and Mrs. Elliott Chase are living.  He leaves a wife, 3 sons and 1 dau.

Good Luck, Pat Moore
