Reply to MILLER Posted Feb. 28 by Jim Mumford

Dorothea Motts (died 29 Oct 1993 in Canton, Fulton County, Illinois) married Harold Miller and had a son named -Richard (Dick)Miller b: 5 Aug 1929 in Canton, Ill. He is the great grandson of Charles and Dorothea Christina Wilke of Mishawaka. I am also the great grandson of the above. I am trying to tiy down some of the family tree. I have several photos of all of the above people. I know that there are two more generations after Richard.
======================

My name is M. Frank MILLER, born 26 Feb 1914 in Canton, Fulton Co., IL. I am a 91 year old first cousin of the Harold MILLER you mention. Harold's father was Charles F. MILLER, his grandfather was John R. MILLER, and his great grand father is Henry F. MILLER.

MILLER, Henry F. was a Wagoner (colonial freight hauler) and farmer. From an 1850 census record on Boonesboro, Washington Co., Maryland it shows him as 49 yr. old. Hence, he was born circa 1801, His wife’s name is Catherine. Children: Elias, John R., William H. and Ann K. Miller. John R. MILLER was born 15 Aug. 1835. William H. was born 5 years later (1840 or 1841) on a farm, a few miles east of Boonesboro,MD at the foot of South Mountain. When John R. was about 20 (1855) and William 15, the boys helped their Dad man the team and wagon to haul some family or freight to Fulton County, IL. For some reason, John R. & William H. MILLER decided to stay and settle down in Fulton County.

MILLER, John R. married Angeline CLUTS (b 15 Aug 1839) on 17 Oct. 1858. They lived on a rented farm near Bybee Station, Joshua Township,Fulton County west of Canton, IL. He was a school teacher and did farming in the summers. They had 8 children. Lodenia (died at birth) - Loren E. - Lewis Worthington -Carrie (HINES) - John W. - Charles F. -Harry R. (my father) - and Ida (ROOT)
Although Grandpa John R. Miller came from a Mennonite family (frowned on genealogies as being a sin of pride) he agreed to join his staunch Lutheran wife in membership at the Locust Lane Lutheran Church. He died in 1911 and she in 1920 - both buried in the MILLER family plot of the Locust Lane Cemetery about 9 miles west of Canton and a mile or two north of Fiatt, IL. Frank’s parents. Harry R. & Bertha MARR Miller are also.buried there.

MILLER, Charles Furry was born 14 Jul 1871. He had to ride through a rainstorm and deep mud to marry his bride, Anna V. HENDERSON, in Cuba, IL on a March day in 1897. He was a paid fireman of the Canton, IL fire department. They had 4 children - Harold (b 1904), - Mildred (WALKER), - Helen (CHATSWORTH) - and Margaret (YOUNG) Uncle Charlie died 27 Jan 1953 and Aunt Anna died circa 1957. They are buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, Canton, IL.

MILLER, Harold - Cousin Harold was born in 1904 in Canton. He was a year younger than my brother, Harry A MILLER (1903) and a year older than my sister, Data May MILLER Woodruff (1905). He had a very good Auto Body Shop in Canton. He loved racing and I was a bit fearful the few times I had a ride with him. It was an auto accident that caused his death. (1961).

Suzie, since I am tied to the Millers only by marriage (Dorothea Motts Miller) I am not as interested as one of the family would be. I will try to contact some of the Millers. i would not want the album to get away though.  Jim Munford
