I have just discovered that my 3x Great Uncle, Jesse Chance, came out to Illinois in 1881 along with his wife, Eliza, & 3 children. They had at least another four children in Illinois. In 1900 they were living on South Main Street, Farmington, wher I presume they had been living since they immigrated, although I have no proof of that. One daughter, Esther, married William E Thrush & were living in Farmington in 1920, along with her brother William. Another brother, John was living in East Court Street, but by 1930 had moved to Young Hickory. Another of the sons, also called Jesse, married Iva. I have seen a posting on Rootsweb of an obituary for Iva in 1968. Apparently her first husband was Ransom Emans who died in 1908, she then married Jesse, who died in 1925. The woman who posted the information, Londie Benson, said she had copies of the obituaries & would let people have the details if they e-mailed her. The posting is dated 1998. Unfortunately the e-mail I sent was returned. Her address must have changed. Does anyone know of this collection of obituaries & how I can contact her?
My 3x Great Uncle died between 1920 & 1930 & his wife, Eliza, sometime between 1900 & 1910. I should be extremely grateful if anyone has any information on this family & can tell me something about Farmington. Jesse was a coal miner, so I presume there was a mine in the area. Also are there any photogarphs of Farmington & particularly South Main Street taken at around the turn of the century?
My children's 3X great-grandfather, James Adkison/Adkisson/Atkinson, etc., was married to a widow named Jane Chance. She had two children by her previous marriage--Pockonts Chance born 1866 in MO and John Chance born in 1871 in MO. Her Chance husband was born in KY. I can't recall his name off hand. No doubt they're related to you! Marge Vallazza:)
Many thanks for your reply. Unfortunately there isn't a definite connection. There are quite a lot of people named Chance in the Worcestershire/Staffordshire are of England & although they may be related, there is no proof. As my family didn't emigrate to the States until 1881 there may not be a connection to the people you mention. Thanks anyway.
