I am wondering if anyone knows of cemeteries that were in use in 1847. My gr gr gr grandfather, Isaac GILES, died in Farmington in 1847. His body was later removed from its original site and moved to Oak Ridge Cemetery to be buried alongside his daughter, Kate E. Giles SMITH, who died in Farmington in January, 1874. There was money taken out of Kate's estate to pay for the removal and reinternment, but the records do not state where his body was removed from, only that he was reburied at Oak Ridge.
There is a small cemetery off Bailey Rd near Sugar Creek about 4 miles north of Vermont. It is on what was once the Bottenburg farm. The Bottenburgs came to Fulton County about 1840. It is sometimes referred to as the Baily cemetery. I do not know if this is of help in your search. Doug Baily
You might look at the LDS Family History site. Look at the library and then do a place search, put in fulton as a part of Illinois and there is a long list of possible films to order, among them are some on Fulton County cemetery's. What is going to be more useful for me are the cemetery books on which there are no film notes because they are not on microfilm, and they can only be veiwed at the Salt Lake Family History Center. But I believe it is possible to have someone at the center copy certain pages of those books and mail them to you. Of course visiting the Library could be of more help, but that is another matter.
