I am looking for descendants of the John POOL family of Fulton County.
Last year I purchased the old John POOL family bible and extensive photo album from someone on eBay. I did so, at significant expense to me, because I could not bear for these Fulton-related treasures to pass into garage sale oblivion.
My 3 goals are to: 1) share the genealogical information, including documents and clippings, with everyone researching this POOL family. 2) scan and reprint the photos so that they are available to all researchers. 3) eventually find just the right POOL descendants who will cherish these treasures forever, and (hopefully) who will be willing to reimburse me for the price I paid to save them.
If any of you is researching POOL in Fulton Co. (especially in Avon or Virgil) or in Bushnell, IL, we need to talk!
The bible itself was printed 1828, and has the name of the apparent owner, "John Pool," in the front. There are several pages of carefully and legibly recorded birth, marriage, and death records, as well as several old letters, various old newspaper clippings of obituaries, wedding anniversaries, etc. I wish all of you could walk into my living room, sit down, and take a look at this with me, it's really something. Let's put it this way, if I came upon a collection like this regarding my family, I would be sure I had died and gone to heaven! I will transcribe and scan it, gradually, to share with all of you.
Here is some info from the hand-written bible records:
John and Elizabeth (FULTON, parents Alexander and Sarah) POOL appear to be the first owners; my impression is that the bible then passed to their son John.
Elizabeth (FULTON) POOL was born July 29, 1810.
Her husband John POOL was born March 9, 1806, the son of Thomas and Susanna POOL. John died May 7, 1885, "at his home near Virgil, Fulton County."
John and Elizabeth married January 28, 1830, possibly in LaPorte Co., Indiana, where they appear to be from (I need more time to transcribe and organize all the records, but there is a deed of sale by John of a farm there, as well as other mention of them being from there in clippings).
A clipping says John and Elizabeth moved to Canton from LaPorte Co., Indiana in 1843, living in Buckheart Township first, then Farmington.
That's just the beginning. I'll write about their children when I have time and/or when anybody seems interested.
Ring any bells yet?
